I saw you this evening after so many years,
Accompanied by your three darlings in white.
Beyond all resentment, beyond all my fears,
I walked towards you gladly, but oh, what a sight!
When you heard I was coming - did you think I wouldn’t see?
You stood clicking your tongue and rolling your eyes.
You turned on your heels, and jumped quick to flee,
I’ll tell you quite frankly, it was such a surprise.
What are you now, fifty or more I suppose?
Tell me, when does that awkward adolescent phase end?
From the top of your pitch-black dyed head to your toes,
A six figure income does not your hypocrisy mend.
Your resume strewn with good deeds galore,
Does not change your pathetic disposition, indeed.
Nor does God by hypothetical goodness keep score.
For all good is for want if the heart is not freed.
Time has not changed you since I chose a new slot,
And thank goodness I did, yes thank goodness, it’s true!
For try as I may, I couldn’t see casting my lot,
In with those other gals nor with the likes of you.
I pray for you now, for I can clearly see
That happiness will never be in your cards.
For your mind is not right and your heart is not free
So the path that you take in life will always be hard.
Good luck to you, dear, for like them you’ve become
Or perhaps after you they’ve modeled themselves.
For misery loves company and well, you’ve got some,
But into that swamp I’d rather not delve.
