It is often in my life that I have had to rely on hope to carry me through. At times things seem utterly impossible, insurmountable and even desperate. Yet there is always that glimmer of hope that resides just below the surface of the chaos or floats dangerously close above it. Thank goodness for hope!
I understand hope to be more than just a virtue. It is the key to sanity in this insanity that we call everyday life. It’s what makes all things bearable knowing that ”all passes” and provides us with the certainty that there is something better ahead beyond the darkness and doubt. Hope is the great grounding force that helps us to keep it together.
Anyone with a decent amount of “conscious” life experience (I say conscious, because I am certain that there are not a few people out there who walk around completely unconscious for the better part of their lives) knows that light always follows darkness and that things can only get so bad before they start getting better. It is the cycle of life.
One piece of advice that I have always held dear during the trying moments is this: “Never make a major decision during the chaos. Never decide anything in an emotional state and never act until you have first reached a state of understanding and calm within yourself.”
So for today, I hope.

Great post! Not only do I try not to make major decisions during times of chaos or stress, but I also try to keep my mouth shut. I have found that I often say things that I don’t really want to put out there when I am feeling stressed.
My maiden name is Dowler and I recently discovered that the Dowler family motto is, “While I breathe, I hope”. I thought that was lovely and couldn’t agree with your sentiments more.
Very aptly said.
“While I breathe, I hope.” I love that! I am going to go out and have that tatooed on my body somewhere! Seriously! Anyone game to join me?
Very true and thank you for posting this.
The Bible rightly points out that hope is an anchor to the soul and for sure I’d be a shipwreck without it.
What a great blog! I will be back!
