I don’t usually watch daytime TV. Yesterday I was obliged to. Oprah’s topic was just waaaaaay too interesting to resist: A Pregnant Man!!!!!! The oddities of life don’t usually command my attention with such force, but, after all, who more would want to find out all about a man suffering through pregnancy than a pregnant woman!
I cannot for the life of me recall which blogger mentioned the upcoming episode or I’d be sending her some linky love! You know who you are, and if you remind me, I’ll provide the recognition due here!!!!
In any case, it turns out that is was not a pregnant man at all, but a woman who had undergone gender modification to become a man and then undergone home spun artificial insemination (”his” wife did the inseminating) to become pregnant with donor sperm. OMG!!!! Does it get any crazier than this?! You can read all about it here.
I cannot help but wonder: What do you all think about this? Am I the only one who thinks that this is both unnatural and inappropriate? Please, take my poll and leave a comment! I am just sooooo curious!
And yes, I am feeling a bit cheated… I wanted to see a pregnant MAN!!!!
And just in case you go and google male pregnancy… Mr. Lee Mingwei’s is a hoax (the whole website is!).

i saw it too…i could not stop watching. i don’t even have words to describe how it made me feel…it was just so…so.
I saw this advertised…I set my up Tivo. But I didn’t get a chance to watch it yet. I don’t know what to think…if “he” still has female reproductive organs - what actually makes “him” a man?! I don’t understand at all…did “he” have surgury to have a penis added? I thought they used parts of the female organs to make the male organ?! I think I need to watch this when I get home.
And when I read further, I was also disappointed that it wasn’t biologically a man who was preggers….Oprah sure knows how to advertise!
That is ridiculous.
Been hearing lots of negative stuff about Oprah lately.
Your either born a man or born a women.
I saw this on PerezHilton (great news source! Hah!) and, um, yeah, it was definitely one of those things that just wasn’t computing in my brain. I’m kind of fascinated as to how a woman can feel *so* much like a man that she’d go through gender modification only to then want to do the one thing that separates men from women. Definitely an interesting psychological study.
OK - I don’t know that it’s not possible to be born and psychologically be the wrong gender. I don’t know that it IS, but I don’t know that it isn’t. It doesn’t mean I neccessarily agree with the steps people take to address the issues either - but who am I to judge. BUT - if you feel so masculine that you have to undergo surgery….what’s masculine about having a baby????
I dunno. If you’ve got girl bits I don’t think that makes you a man really. But some people do have real problems with their gender.
I will be more impressed when a biological male carries a baby to full term!
Having said that, there are people who are born with undetermined gender, known as intersex people nowadays. Very difficult for them.
I second all these comments and wanted to say that I appreciate your open-minded comments. A lot of people are very judgmental and unable to see life as someone very different from them might see it, so it was refreshing to read your comments! MommyK, you attract a nice crowd!
I read about it in People. While it is not the norm, they are making a baby and that kid shouldn’t be made to suffer. Can’t we all just get along?
Like Whitney Houston says “HAIL TO DA NAW!” lol
Girl, there are just all kinds of wrong with this situation, in my book. But I’ll leave it at that. I just can’t understand if this transgender was so dissatisfied with being a woman how come he/she would want to experience one of the MOST feminine experiences a woman can have - have a child. Why didn’t they just adopt? Crazy ish!
