In preparation for tomorrow’s post about choosing a name for our baby (stay tuned, because your vote counts) I had a brief but ever thought provoking conversation with Hubby about male versus female preferences.
Hubby claims that we women have a totally different opinions about what is “pretty” and what isn’t in a girl’s name. Hmmm. Seriously, first they have different concepts of female beauty than we do, now they want to lay stake to the “prettiness” or “ugliness” of girls’ names.
So I turn to you, fellow bloggers, to tell me: is this true? Do the sexes have totally different name preferences?
Now, since I’m pretty certain that I do not have many male readers …(except maybe my snot-ass brother-in-law in Louisiana who thinks that he combs my blog regularly in complete anonymity looking for confirmation that I am as nuts as he and the rest of his screwed up family members claim I am - Yeah! You! Jerk! Thanks to a little computer wonder called “site stats” and “raw access logs” your cover is blown. Why don’t you just subscribe via email or RSS feed and be done with the charade?)… I’ll have to ask you ladies to poll your husbands, brothers, fathers, sons and such. I really would like to know if this is so.
Thanks for humoring me. Remember, you should always humor crazy people!

not sure what to think but I agree with the comment:”you should always humor crazy people!”
I haven’t taken any formal polls, but I have to say that my husband and I generally agree on the “prettiness” or “ugliness” of names.
I’ll probably get flamed for this.. but I think names with “kreativ” spelling are not so nice…
Good question. It seems to me that men like shorter, stronger sounding names. Where women like names that have significant meaning or sound unique/nice. I’ll have to test this on the hubster.
Mine prefers more traditional names (which I do like too) whereas I like some more adventurous ones. Not the ones with kreativ spelling tho’. I’m with manager mom on that.
